EXCERPTS:  “I believe it is long past time to compensate these former
workers for the heroic sacrifices they made in helping America
win the Cold War,” said Bond. . .

“I have met with many of these former workers and heard about
their sufferings first-hand. They are victims of what appears to be
an endless bureaucratic process,” said Bond in a statement
submitted to the board and read today at a public meeting. . .

“This will give these former workers the compensation they need
to pay their medical bills and to provide for their survivors. . .”

“There are too many complicating circumstances and too much
unknown information regarding these former workers that make
it impossible for NIOSH to proceed with dose reconstructions for
the Mallinckrodt claimants with any degree of accuracy and
credibility,” Bond said.  — RE: Intervention by US Senator Kit
Bond on behalf of his Mallinckrodt Chemical Company victims.

During the 32nd Advisory Board meeting August 25, 2005, (EXHIBIT 38) the members approved the Mallinckrodt Chemical workers “SEC” status by a margin of 6-4.  Primarily the reason for the SEC approval was because NIOSH could not deliver on its preferred method to calculate internal dosesA board member said, he dug in the weeds" and found serious errors in the CER database between the raw data sheets and the electronic recordsThis recommendation will now go to the Director of NIOSH who must decide between recommending the Board's recommendation versus supporting NIOSH's team under Larry Elliott which says it can do accurate and timely dose reconstructions on this cohort. NIOSH makes it's recommendation to Congress, who gives final approval. If approved, the entire MCW-Destrehan Street 1942-57 group of workers will have SEC status.
